NationAir Supports Entrepreneurs Through Non-Profit Micro-Lender Kiva

CHICAGO, Ill.—December 2, 2008—NationAir Aviation Insurance announced today that it has made a charitable micro-loan to a needy entrepreneur through the non-profit organization Kiva. NationAir made the contribution as a gesture of thanks to the firm’s clients who have participated in monthly client satisfaction surveys over the past year.

Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person, micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to entrepreneurs in the developing world. Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending programs for the sake of alleviating poverty.

NationAir made the micro-loan to an individual named Juma Omary, who lives in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Omary is 40 years old and has six children. He will use the loan to expand his furniture making business.

Loan monies are repaid by the loan recipients. Through Kiva, NationAir will re-lend the repaid funds to someone else in need. NationAir also plans on making additional quarterly loans to Kiva entrepreneurs.

“When we launched our customer satisfaction surveys, we told survey recipients that we would be making a charitable donation to recognize their effort to provide feedback on our service quality,” said Jeffrey Bauer, NationAir president. “It seemed to be the most appropriate way to honor our customers: contributing to an organization that supports entrepreneurs in developing countries who would not otherwise have a source of capital to start or grow their businesses.”
